Social Justice
opening minds and hearts luncheons
Held six times per year, these events serve to raise awareness and increase understanding about the various cultural groups of women represented in the Anchorage community. The main program consists of three women from the cultural group speaking about their experiences living in Anchorage. There is a time for questions and dialogue at the end of the lunch. Past luncheons have featured: Alaska Native Women, Women from Israel, Women in the Military, Women in Politics, Transgender Women, Polynesian Women, Latina Women, Lesbians in Ministry, etc. The luncheons are sponsored by ConocoPhillips, Alyeska Pipeline Service Co., and Anchorage Equal Rights Commission.
everyday justice group
In collaboration with Grassroots Fair Trade Store, YWCA coordinates an Everyday Justice group to learn and discuss social and environmental justice issues and what everyday choices people can make to create positive social change in our community and world. The group is open to the public and meets from 7-8:30pm on the second Wednesday of the month at Grassroots Fair Trade Store.
