youth empowerment

Girls circle

This program, held in local schools and community centers, uses a national, research-based curricula designed to motivate girls ages 9-18 to become resilient, self-aware, accept their strengths, achieve a sense of belonging, develop a sense of power, improve their communication skills and learn to recognize healthy relationships.

the council (for boys & young men)

this program, held in local schools and community centers, uses a national, research -based curricula designed for boys ages 9-18 to experience a sense of belonging, learn to be allies with one another, make healthy choices, act responsibly and with self-respect, and improve their communication skills.

young women's leadership council

young women (ages 12-25) meet regularly and participate in service learning and community service projects throughout the Anchorage area. Through the YWLC, young women develop leadership skills, empathy, self-confidence and self-respect.

multicultural female leadership conference

in collaboration with the Soroptimist International of Cook Inlet and the Anchorage School District each year we offer workshops for ethnically diverse 7th and 8th grade girls. The MFLC is designed to educate, inspire and empower girls.

young people of achievement awards

annual awards that recognize ten young people, ages 16-18, in our community who have faced struggles and worked towards the ywca mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. Thanks to many community sponsors, including the major sponsorship of alpha lodge no.1, awardees receive $500 and are recognized at an awards ceremony for their achievement. Each year nomination forms are available on our website, at the ywca, and in the schools in february for new applicants for the annual award.
